In the third quarter of 2024, compared to the same quarter last year, fewer starting businesses ('starters') were registered with KVK again. The number of starters has been falling for 5 quarters in a row compared to the same quarter a year earlier. The number of discontinuing establishments ('stoppers') continues to rise. With a 2.6% increase in the number of establishments, KVK sees the lowest growth rate in the past decade.
The KVK Trend Report provides insight into the development of the number of business establishments, starters, stoppers, and bankruptcies in the Netherlands over the past decade. This edition compares Q3 2024 with Q3 2023. The report includes information on different business sectors and provinces. It also shows what proportion of businesses in the Netherlands are self-employed (zzp'er). Apart from these developments in business dynamics, the Trend Report also contains information on legal forms, gender, and age of entrepreneurs and some business cycle indicators.
